BEFORE YOU CHOOSE
Reading the Halton Lists
Halton Region runs three long-term care homes, one each in Oakville, Burlington and Milton, and all three have some of the longest lists in Halton. Halton has fewer homes than Toronto or Peel, so families often add a home in a neighbouring town to their five choices.
To apply, call Ontario Health atHome at 310-2222 (no area code needed). A care coordinator assesses whether your loved one is eligible and helps you choose up to five homes.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Questions About Long-Term Care in Halton
Can we choose homes in Oakville and Burlington?
Yes. You can choose up to five homes anywhere in Ontario, including homes in Peel or Hamilton if they suit your family.
How long is the wait for long-term care in Oakville?
The province does not publish a wait in days for each home. The list on this page shows how many people are waiting for each home, which is the best guide to how competitive a home is.
Can our parent get care at home while on the list?
Yes. Private home care keeps your loved one at home with support while they wait, and it does not affect their place on any list.
Support at Home While You Wait
Our Mississauga office arranges private care for families across Halton and Peel, around the hours Ontario Health atHome provides. A free in-home assessment is the first step.
