BEFORE YOU CHOOSE

Reading the Toronto Lists

Some of the longest lists in Toronto are at homes that serve a particular language or cultural community. If those homes matter to your family, it can help to list one or two homes with shorter lists as well, so an offer can come sooner.

To apply, call Ontario Health atHome at 310-2222 (no area code needed). A care coordinator assesses whether your loved one is eligible and helps you choose up to five homes. The Toronto Central Healthline lists homes and community services across the city.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions About Long-Term Care in Toronto

How many homes can we choose in Toronto?

Up to five, anywhere in Ontario. Some families pick one or two homes they want most and add homes with shorter lists.

What happens if we turn down a bed?

Refusing an offer closes the application and removes your loved one from every list, and in most cases you must wait 12 weeks to apply again unless their condition changes.

Can our parent stay at home while on the list?

Yes. Private home care keeps your loved one at home with support while they wait, and it does not affect their place on any list.
