WINNIPEG LONG-TERM CARE
In Manitoba, a long-term care home is called a personal care home. The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) manages placement in Winnipeg. Each week Manitoba Health counts how many people in the region are waiting for a bed, in hospital and in the community. This page shows those figures week by week, with every personal care home in the region.

HOW PLACEMENT WORKS
Placement runs through the WRHA's Home Care program, in 4 steps.
Call Home Care Central Intake at 204-788-8330. A case coordinator visits, assesses your loved one's needs and sets up a care plan. The WRHA looks at a personal care home application only once a person is getting the most home care available for their needs.
When home care is no longer enough, the case coordinator brings in a long-term care navigator. The navigator fills in the application with your loved one, who must agree to it. Their doctor or nurse practitioner adds a medical assessment.
The navigator reviews the application and approves it, a step Winnipeg calls the panel process. To qualify, a person must need 24-hour nursing care, be medically stable and meet Manitoba's residency rules.
Once approved, your loved one joins the waitlist for the home they picked, in order of approval date. Someone moving straight from hospital takes the first suitable bed and keeps their place on that list. Turning down a bed at the chosen home means applying again from the start.

COMMON QUESTIONS
The WRHA's Long Term Care Access Centre keeps the waitlists, and Manitoba Health publishes one weekly count for the whole Winnipeg health region, which this page shows. The homes themselves cannot tell you their wait times.
Manitoba Health counts the people waiting for a personal care home bed in two groups: those in a hospital and those in the community, such as at home. It also counts how many from each group moved into a home that week.
One at a time. In Winnipeg your loved one's name sits on a single home's waitlist. If you switch to another home, their place still goes by the date the application was approved.
No. Places on the waitlist go by the date the application was approved. Private home care can add hours, overnight care and more consistency in who comes to the house.
A Registered Nurse from our Winnipeg team visits, learns your loved one's routine and sets out a plan with your family. Care can start with a few hours a week.
