Figures as of August 31, 2026, the latest the province has published. They are calculated by the Ministry of Long-Term Care from data provided by Ontario Health, and we copy them from the Government of Ontario long-term care home finder, opens in a new tab. We check for new figures every week.
BEFORE YOU CHOOSE
Reading the Ottawa Lists
Several of the longest lists in Ottawa are at homes the City of Ottawa runs. List lengths vary widely across the city, so it is worth looking past the best-known homes when you choose.
To apply, call Ontario Health atHome at 310-2222 (no area code needed). A care coordinator assesses whether your loved one is eligible and helps you choose up to five homes. Our guide to private home care and long-term care waitlists in Ottawa covers how families fill the gap.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Questions About Long-Term Care in Ottawa
How many homes can we choose in Ottawa?
Up to five, anywhere in Ontario. Some families pick one or two homes they want most and add homes with shorter lists.
What happens if we turn down a bed?
Refusing an offer closes the application and removes your loved one from every list, and in most cases you must wait 12 weeks to apply again unless their condition changes.
Can our parent stay at home while on the list?
Yes. Private home care keeps your loved one at home with support while they wait, and it does not affect their place on any list.
Support at Home While You Wait
Our Ottawa care team arranges private care around the hours Ontario Health atHome provides, from a few hours a week up to live-in care. A free in-home assessment is the first step.
