Our Philosophy
At Integracare, our philosophy is simple yet profound: everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and supported in the comfort of their own home. We believe that home is more than just a place. It's where individuals can maintain their dignity, independence, and sense of self.
We are committed to
- Building strong, consistent relationships between caregivers and clients.
- Supporting families through clear communication and collaboration.
- Providing care that evolves with changing needs.
- Advocating for clients within the broader healthcare system.
Our approach to care prioritizes person-centred practices, ensuring that each decision reflects our clients’ unique preferences and needs.
Building Strong Connections
We are committed to creating lasting and positive connections between our clients and their Caregivers. Our Dementia care educated Caregivers have been screened and trained with the principles of dementia care to be able to offer sensitive and meaningful support to our Clients.
We are fully dedicated to training all of our Caregivers in the four key areas of Dementia Care. Integracare has invested in a complete set of extensive training programs from the Alzheimer Society of Toronto. We continue to offer this specialized training to all of our support members on our team to ensure they have the resources to provide your loved one with attentive, nurturing, educated support across all forms of Dementia and at each phase of the condition.
Our Team
Every Caregiver in the Integracare Family is carefully selected, vetted and educated in a rigorous process in accordance with extremely high standards. Integracare’s coordination office works diligently to match Caregivers to specific Clients’ needs, so that we ensure the best possible match and we are committed to provide continuity of care. This, of course, means that Clients and Caregivers are matched according to medical need – for example, a client suffering Dementia will be matched with a Caregiver specializing in Dementia and Alzheimer’s – but it also means that matches can focus on things like fostering independence or providing companionship.
All of our Caregivers are screened thoroughly, using references and background checks, and are trained and supervised by a dedicated team of Nursing Coordinators. Caregivers receive regular on-site visitations from Nursing Coordinators to ensure that they are matched perfectly with their Client.
Caregiver Roles and Qualifications
Understanding who provides care, and how, is essential to feeling confident in your decision.
At Integracare, care is delivered by a coordinated team of qualified professionals, each with a specific role:
- Personal Support Workers (PSWs) assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, mobility, and companionship
- Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) and Registered Nurses (RNs) provide clinical care, medication management, and health monitoring
- A Dementia care educated Caregiver supports clients experiencing cognitive decline with structured routines and specialized care approaches
- A Wound Care Nurse manages complex wounds, dressings, and healing plans at home
- A Registered Massage Therapist helps reduce pain, improve circulation, and support recovery or comfort
Our care coordinators play a vital role in overseeing the entire care plan, making sure that everything runs smoothly with consistent communication and adjustments as needs change. Our caregivers bring warmth and companionship into every home. Families often share that this emotional reassurance makes the most significant difference, helping loved ones feel supported and connected every step of the way.
Knowing When to Seek Professional Help
Choosing when to call in professional help can be difficult for families. It's a hard decision to make, and it's usually postponed until an emergency happens. However, you can actually avoid urgent situations by calling for help early and minimizing stress in the long run.
You may consider calling a private home health care agency for professional home care if you have noticed:
- Frequent falls: Your loved one is not sure on their feet, may hesitate when walking in their home, or it takes them a long time to get from place to place.
- Missed medications: Someone you love is missing doses or is not taking the correct medication due to a misunderstanding of what to do.
- Memory changes: Individuals are prone to forgetting certain aspects of their daily lives, such as what day of the week it is or who you are.
- Mood changes: Patients have higher anxiety levels and seem withdrawn, or their mood has been altered somehow.
- Caregiver strain: Someone providing care for a client appears exhausted or mentally or emotionally stressed, and a relief person should be scheduled to ensure they both receive care.
- Personal Care Deteriorates: A lack of appropriate hygiene, nutrition, or care of the house is occurring.
Take a parent who normally cooks all their meals as an example; if you notice that they are skipping meals or do not wish to climb stairs, it may be a good indication that a care provider may be helpful to them. Small changes such as these are what may indicate that it's time to ask for outside assistance.
A professional assessment is designed to evaluate potential risks and develop the right care plan for the patient as well as to provide you with peace of mind knowing your loved one is safe. Asking for help isn't losing independence; it's gaining a way to live life fully and safely again.

Personal Support Service Fostering Independence & Improving Accessibility
Part of offering high-quality in-home healthcare involves advocating for dignity, community and Client independence. Many professionals and senior forums nowadays are discussing the value of “aging in place” – that is, being able to age amid your own home and community, safe in the knowledge that you have the necessary social and health support you require.
Aging in place is as important to us as it is to you and/or your loved one. Integracare Caregivers foster independence by aiding in housework, habitual and lifestyle changes, and healthcare. They also help improve accessibility in your or your loved one’s home. And, at Integracare, we also offer medical and assistive supplies, from wheelchairs and electric hospital beds to diabetic supplies or wound care supplies.
You Don't Have to Choose Just One
Here's something many families don't realize: you don't have to pick between public and private care. In Ontario, blending both often creates the smoothest experience.
Think of it like this: public services through Ontario Health atHome might cover a weekly nursing visit or occasional therapy. But what about the other six days of the week? That's where private care steps in, filling the gaps with daily support, flexible scheduling, and genuine companionship.
Your care coordinator helps weave these services together into one seamless plan that actually makes sense. So instead of juggling multiple providers and hoping nothing falls through the cracks, you get consistent, coordinated care.
For example, your mom might see a public nurse for wound care once a week, while her private caregiver helps with bathing, meals, and company every day. No gaps. No wondering who's coming when. Just reliable support.
Public vs. Private: What's the Real Difference?
Let's clear up the confusion, because misunderstanding how these systems work leads to a lot of frustration.
Public care is subsidized, which is great, but it often means waitlists, limited hours, and rotating staff who may not know your loved one's preferences. Private care starts when you need it, scales up or down as situations change, and prioritizes matching your loved one with caregivers they'll actually know and trust.
Public services typically focus on essential medical tasks. Private care goes further, helping with meals, light housekeeping, and simply being there for conversation and connection.
The biggest misconception? That public care will handle everything. Most families eventually discover it doesn't, and that's when private care becomes essential for filling the gaps that matter most.
Comparison to Public Homecare
It is important to know how private and publicly financed home care differ to ensure proper decision-making.
Main Differences
- Availability: The waiting list and operating hours may be restrictive for public care; private care is available quickly and offers flexible hours
- Continuity of Care: Private providers emphasize consistent, matched care, while public services may have rotating employees
- Variety of Services Offered: Private home care covers housekeeping, cooking, company, specialized therapies, and other services; public home care provides only medical or essential services
- Tailored Approach: Private care provides customized care that changes according to client needs; public care relies on established protocols
- Funding: Public services are either covered by funding programs or provided for free; private services cost money yet offer greater service options
Cost and Funding Options
Worried about the cost of care? Many families are surprised to learn that there are several Canadian tax credits, funding programs, and insurance options that can help make private home health care services more manageable.
Understanding what’s available and what applies to your situation can make a meaningful difference in both short-term affordability and long-term planning.
What to Expect
Private home care costs in Ontario typically range from 25 to 60 CAD per hour, depending on the level of care required, the type of provider, and whether specialized services are involved.
While private care is paid out-of-pocket, there are several ways families can offset expenses:
- The Canada Caregiver Credit (CCC) may provide tax relief for those supporting a dependent family member with a physical or mental impairment
- The Medical Expense Tax Credit (METC) allows eligible home care services, including personal support, nursing care, and certain therapies, to be claimed on your tax return
- Ontario-specific supports, such as the Ontario Seniors Care at Home Tax Credit (when available based on government program cycles), may help offset eligible home care expenses
- Some private or employer-sponsored insurance plans may cover portions of home care, especially for nursing or short-term recovery support
- Veterans Affairs Canada programs may provide funding for eligible veterans requiring home support services
Costs can vary depending on whether care is occasional, daily, overnight, or live-in, so having a clear care plan early on helps avoid unexpected expenses.
How to Access Funding
Navigating funding options can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re already managing care decisions. A structured approach can help simplify the process:
- Start with a professional home care assessment to determine the level and type of care required
- Explore publicly funded services through Ontario Health atHome, which may cover limited nursing, therapy, or personal support services
- Review eligibility for federal and provincial tax credits, including caregiver and medical expense programs
- Check with private insurance providers or employee benefit plans to understand what services may be reimbursed
- Work with a care coordinator who can help identify available programs, organize documentation, and ensure nothing is overlooked
For families managing ongoing or complex care needs, combining tax credits, partial insurance coverage, and private pay is often the most practical approach. Understanding your funding options allows you to plan with greater confidence and focus your energy where it matters most: ensuring consistent, high-quality care for your loved one at home.
Personalization and Flexibility of Services
Every family’s journey is unique, and we understand that your requirements may evolve gradually over time or even instantly. This is why our services are completely personalized to your preferences and designed to grow and change with you. We don’t fit your life into strict guidelines; rather, we tailor everything in accordance with your wishes.
- Created for You: The entire care plan is based on your loved one's habits, health requirements, and preferences.
- Flexible Scheduling: From assistance in the morning, additional support during demanding evenings, nighttime assistance, or 24/7 care, we’re available whenever you need us.
- Finding the Best: We understand how important it is to you that caregivers have the ideal personalities and temperaments for your loved ones. At any moment, you can ask us to replace a caregiver who does not seem like a good fit.
- Evolving Assistance: Easily adapt to changing life circumstances. For example, following a surgery recovery period, you may begin with round-the-clock assistance and reduce it to a few hours each week.
Our Client-First Commitment
Our mission at Integracare is to offer the highest quality person-centred home healthcare. That means that our Caregivers make themselves available 24 hours, 7 days per week, wherever you or your loved one calls home. That means that our Caregivers offer specialized, professional, compassionate service to Clients, and that they work collaboratively with the Client, their family and associated health care professionals to ensure we are providing the best possible service.
We firmly believe in health care advocacy as well. Those suffering from an illness, or who might otherwise be unable to speak up for themselves, require the ongoing and passionate advocacy of healthcare providers like Integracare. We do this by fostering independence, providing comfort and dignity, and filling healthcare gaps in the public system.
